Heather and Jordi’s Intimate Wedding in St. Augustine

This intimate wedding in St. Augustine had everything you could ask for in a celebration. Heather and Jordi exchanged vows surrounded by their friends and family, and then watched the sunset from a private dock. Although this wedding was much smaller than the ones I normally photograph, I worked with Heather and Jordi to create the perfect custom package for their day. I’m so glad I was able to be a part of this beautiful, family-centered celebration. Keep reading for all the incredible details.

An Intimate Backyard Wedding

Heather and Jordi celebrated their union in the backyard of Heather’s childhood home in St. Augustine. The outdoor ceremony was held under two towering trees with the dock perfectly framed behind them. Afterward, guests enjoyed dinner from a private chef and a cake made by Jordi’s mom. They sat in the family dining room at the same table where they’d celebrated countless holidays and events and will continue to do so for many years.

During our portrait session, Heather pointed out all her favorite spots and memories she had made around the neighborhood. It was so fun to hear all her stories about growing up in the area and how special this home was to her. If the space allows for it, I think there’s nothing more romantic than getting married on family property. From the intimacy of getting ready in your own home to getting to revisit your wedding site any time you want, it’s truly a special experience.

A detail I really loved on this wedding day was how it was totally unplugged. It was important to Heather and Jordi that everyone was completely present on their wedding day. As they entered the dining room for dinner, guests put their cell phones on silent and placed them in a basket. While this may not work on a larger scale, this was the perfect way to limit distractions at this intimate reception, and it was so nice to see everyone 100% focused on the couple.

A Nod to Scotland

One of my favorite details from this wedding was Heather’s bridal bouquet. Her family is from Scotland, and she was named after a flower that grows there, called Heather. Shortly before the wedding, Heather and her mom went to Scotland and visited her grandmother’s grave. When they arrived, they were shocked to find Heather’s flowers growing all over the plot. To memorialize the special moment, they picked a few of the flowers and brought them back home to be used in Heather’s bouquet as a nod to her family and heritage.

Unfortunately, Heather’s grandfather couldn’t make the trip from Scotland to the US for the wedding, but he wasn’t left out! She FaceTimed with him on the morning of her wedding and even planned ahead with some of his caregivers for a special day. They set up a formal place setting for him in his home and provided him with the same meal being served at the wedding. Even from thousands of miles away, Heather’s grandfather got to celebrate with them.
