We're Nikki & Chris!

Hi!

If you’re planning to propose in St. Augustine, you’ve already chosen one of the most magical places in Florida. Whether you’re dreaming of a sunset by the bay or a private courtyard at the Lightner Museum, St. Augustine is full of romantic spots that set the stage for your next chapter. As a wedding and proposal photographer based in St. Augustine, I’ve captured countless proposals, and I’m here to help you find the most unforgettable location to pop the question!

Top Tips To Propose in St. Augustine

Before we dive into my favorite locations, let’s talk about a few key tips for planning the perfect proposal! First, check the local events calendar—St. Augustine is always buzzing with events, and knowing what’s happening on the day of your proposal will help you avoid crowds and secure a good parking spot. I also highly recommend making dinner reservations so you and your partner can toast with champagne and celebrate afterward!

One of the most important details is capturing this moment with professional photos. Trust me; you’ll be grateful to have images of your proposal, perfect for sharing with family, announcing your engagement on social media, or using with your Save the Date cards. Rather than relying on a random passerby, having a professional photographer lets you focus on the moment! I suggest reaching out 2-3 months before your proposal so we can plan every detail and make it truly perfect!

1. The Lightner Museum

For a classic and romantic St. Augustine proposal, the courtyard at The Lightner Museum is absolutely dreamy—especially if you arrange for it after closing time. With a permit (which I can handle for you!), you’ll have the courtyard all to yourselves, ensuring no photobombers during your proposal. The serene atmosphere, surrounded by historic architecture, creates a private, intimate setting that’s hard to beat. If you’re looking for something quiet, unique, and incredibly romantic, this is the spot. You can also propose in front of The Lightner Museum so that you have a beautiful view behind you. However, you will have to worry about tourists, so we would want to pick a weekday to avoid the large weekend crowds.

2. Sunset or Nights of Lights Boat Tour

For the adventurous and romantic couple, nothing compares to proposing on a private sunset boat tour, or better yet, during St. Augustine’s annual Nights of Lights festival. Imagine the two of you on the water with the city skyline sparkling in the background—it’s pure magic. There are private boat tours available so you don’t have to worry about crowds, and I can even coordinate with the boat company to capture the moment discreetly! November through January is an especially magical time to propose in St. Augustine on the water as the entire city glows with festive lights.

3. Memorial Presbyterian Church

If you’re looking for a proposal spot with historic charm, Memorial Presbyterian Church is perfect. This stunning architectural masterpiece is much less crowded than other popular spots like the fort or Lightner Museum, making it ideal for a more private moment. The intricate details of the building—Spanish, Moorish, Italian, and Baroque influences—make it an unforgettable backdrop for your proposal, and its proximity to St. George Street and Flagler College means you can easily continue your celebration in the heart of historic St. Augustine.

4. Anastasia State Park Beach

For the beach lovers, Anastasia State Park is hands down my favorite spot for a proposal. It’s quiet, well-manicured, and the sunsets here are breathtaking. Imagine walking hand in hand along the white sand, with the sun sinking into the horizon and casting a golden glow over the ocean. If you’re dreaming of a beach proposal that feels private and serene, Anastasia State Park is the place to be. It’s one of those spots where nature does all the talking—leaving you to just focus on the moment.

5. By Castillo de San Marcos At Sunset

For a picture-perfect St. Augustine proposal with a view of the water and Castillo de San Marcos, this is the spot. While it’s not the most private, the beauty of the cotton candy sunset skies, sailboats drifting by, and the backdrop of the fort creates a romantic and iconic setting that is oh-so St Augustine.
